Fabric Covered Box

Today I'll be sharing my fabric covered box. I didn't really know what I was doing. Instead, I just made it up as I went along, which is evident from these photos. I'll try to explain as I go, but I apologize in advance for the lack of photos.

I started with a cardboard box that reams of paper comes in.

I bought some cheap, but cute fabric from Wal-mart. The patterned fabric was even on clearance!

I took the box apart and measured an appropriate amount of fabric to cover the entire thing. (Ignore the glue in this picture...not really sure why it is there.)

Then, I mod podged a thin layer on the INSIDE, unprinted side of the box. I used the inside so that none of the printing would show through.

Then I started to glue the edges down with Elmer's glue. It wasn't very effective so I got out the glue gun. Now I don't have very much experience with glue gun, so needless to say I know have my first glue gun burn. :)

The photos above were all of the lid. I did the exact same for the box, just used different fabric. No pics of that because I was racing against time before my mod podge dried and busy burning my fingers with a glue gun.

Now, I did well mod podging the box, but I over podged the lid. Here is the result.
No bueno!

So, I covered it up but cutting shapes out of the extra fabric.
Actually I had that planned all along ;)

Scrappy Saturday #6

Happy Saturday!  I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

This weekend's scrapbook layouts are of the bf and I putt-putt golfing.
These pictures were taken when we had been dating for about 3 1/2 years.
That was back when he still took me out on dates :)
Now, he's a poor college kid and I'm a poor first- year teacher working on paying off student loans.

(Ignore the wrinkly paper.  Since then, I have matured in my scrapbooking skills.)

This is another page layout from the same putt-putt golf date :)

This is my favorite picture in the layout. :)

Cell Phone Covers

I heart my Blackberry.

A LOT!

I have a bad habit of taking the backs off of things over and over again.
You know what I am talking about?

My siblings do it too.
Growing up all of our remotes and cordless phones had to have the backs taped on because we would play with them so much the little clippies would break.

Its really a bad habit and I have done it to my Blackberry so much that one of the little clippy-things is about to break.

Here's my crafty solution.
I bought a clear snap on cover, but I had to craft it up a bit.
It was less than $3.00 on Ebay and shipping was FREE.

I went through my scrapbook paper stash and picked out some favorites.

Using the little insert that came in the cover, I traced it on the paper and cut them out.

Ta-Da! Interchangeable cell phone covers :)

I love how they turned out. Now, my only problem is to make sure I don't play with the case and break those clips too! :)

Decorative Home Tile

One of my friends that I teach with just got a new apartment.

I wanted to give her a little housewarming gift, so here is what I came up with.
I bought a tile from Home Depot.

Using my Cricut, I cut out this saying in vinyl and applied it to the tile.

I hot glued this ribbon to the back of the tile.

I added a piece of paper to the back of the tile to cover up the ribbon.

Here it is finished.  I hope she likes it.

(Just as I was posting this, I noticed that I didn't dot the "i" in the word built.  I'll be fixing that.)

Stylish Blogger Award

Kayla over at Small Town Life has awarded me a Stylish Blogger Award! Thanks Kayla; we Kansas girls have to stick together. I'm new at this award thing, but apparently you are suppose to tell 7 random things about yourself and then pass the award on. So here are 7 things...

1. I'm afraid of the dark. I have always been and probably always will be. When I am home alone, things just seem safer when 23 lights are on.

2. I'm addicted to shopping.
Sometimes I buy things I don't even need, just because they are on sale. I love shopping for clothes the most! I have seriously only paid full price for 2-4 things in my closet... and I have hundreds of tops.

3. I have ran 3 half marathons. Running became a stress reliever for me during my last few years in college. However, I had to give up running because I keep getting costochondritis. What is costochondritis? It is inflammation in the cartilage between my ribs and breastplate. Basically, it is unbelievably painful to breath. No bueno.

4. I sing in my car every morning on the way to work. I have a thirty minute drive to school, so I entertain myself by singing the entire way. I sing loud and horribly off tune; thank goodness there isn't much traffic on the highway.

5. My family doesn't know I have a blog. The only person that knows is the bf. I don't really know what I haven't told anybody, but its just nice to have a place of my own. Plus, I can post things I make for family and not have to wait until they have received it before I post.

6. I like to watch stupid reality shows. They are mindless and pointless, but many times make me feel better about myself.

7. I hate when people have to wait on me. I don't like to inconvenience people. When I went on vacation with my bf and his family, I always got up, showered, and was ready within an hour of waking up. I was always the first one ready and usually the only one not in pajamas at the breakfast table. It's not that I don't love lounging in my pjs, because I do! I just don't want anyone to have to wait on me to get ready to go somewhere.

I would like to award Kimbo from A Girl and A Glue Gun with the Stylish Blogger Award. Kimbo has a wonderful sense of humor and tons of great ideas. You should check her out :)

Tasty Tuesday #3: Super Simple Salisbury Steak

Here's another easy recipe that is sure to please.

Super Simple Salisbury Steak

Ingredients:
3-4 beef minute steaks*
2 cups water
3 beef bouillon cubes
1 packet Lipton onion soup mix

Directions:
In a skillet brown the minute steaks for a few minutes on each side. (They do not have to be cooked throughout, just browned.) Boil 2 cups of water, add bouillon cubes and onion soup mix. Place minute steak in a 9 x 13 glass dish and pour soup mixture over. Place in oven at 350 degrees. Bake 20-30 minutes. (Time will vary based on size of steaks.)

To make gravy: After cooking, you can spoon out the soup mixture and put it in a small pot. In a bowl stir up a small amount of water and cornstarch. Add slowly to soup mixture until you get the desired "gravy-like" consistency.

* You may know these as a different names such as round steak, or cubed beef.

Gift Wrapping Organization (part 3-final)

"Ugh, why is she organizing her gift wrapping stuff again?"

That's what your thinking, isn't it.

Ok, sorry if I am boring people out there, but I keep buying more Christmas wrapping stuff.  When its 75%, 80%, or even sometimes 90% off, I just can't help myself.

This is my final post of organizing my wrapping crap.
Promise!

If you missed the other posts, they can be found here:

Gift Wrapping Organization (part 1)
Gift Wrapping Organization (part 2)

Now, most things stayed the same.  I bought a bunch of bows really really cheap.
So, I bought a new container to store all my bows.

So the final rundown of my gift wrapping
organization looks like this:

Rubbermaid zip-up for gift bags

Rubbermaid zip-up for boxes and tissue paper

Basic Wrapping Paper Container

Ribbon Storage (x 2)

Bow Storage

All the goods together :)

(For more detailed explanations, before and after pictures, and other crap please visit the links above for part 1 and part 2 of this organizational project.)

Scrappy Saturday #5

Still sharing scrapbook pages from 2008.  I am really behind and have absolutley nothing done for 2010.  Probably once I get through with sharing the rest of 2008 and all of 2009, 2010 will be completed.

This is from my friend, Cabriel's bachelorette party.
She got married the same day as my brother, so I was unable to attend her wedding.
Her shower was even the same day as my soon-to-be sister-in-law's.
Luckily, their bachelorette parties were on different days.

Personalized Sippy Cups & Snack Container

The bf's nephew is turning 1 soon. We (and by we, I mean I) bought him a couple shirts and a toy, but I wanted to get him something more personal.

I bought these online: 2 sippy cups (1 big and 1 little) and 1 snack container.

I didn't have a lot of time to be really creative, so I just cut out his name and a variety of different sized circles. I used vinyl and my Cricut. Pretty simple, but cute. They cups have an inner portion, so I laminated white paper and stuck the vinyl to the white paper. It slips in the inner portion which is separate from where the liquid goes... does that make sense?

Basically you can take the lid off and the personalized portion is sealed and you can wash without worried of ruining it.

The little sippy.

The big sippy.

The snack container.

I likey.
