Some News

Hi blogging friends! I haven't posted much lately, but I'm hoping that changes. These past few weeks have been really busy and I haven't been very motivated to craft. In addition to this, I have had a bit of a job change....
Let me explain. I am a first year teacher and I began the year teaching ISS. For those of you who are familiar with this, it stands for In-School Suspension. I basically have been running a classroom where students come to as a consequence for breaking rules. ISS is a place that students don't want to go to because I make them work. It's not fun for them, I am very strict and they don't get very many privileges. I know I do my job well, because the students dread ISS, but its not the place for me. I became a teacher so I could enrich students' lives and be a positive influence on them. In ISS, I have helped and taught many students, but I haven't had the opportunity to have fun with my students simply because ISS is not the setting for that.
Well..... anyway, an opportunity presented itself as there was an opening teaching math and reading. The job is in my building and right down the hall. The position was for next year, so I applied to be transferred. My principal called me in last week to tell me that the job was mine! I was excited and then he asked if I would like to start TOMORROW!! I was blindsided to say the least. I accepted the position and spent all of last week trying to transition into my new classroom. Last week was super busy for me and I was really overwhelmed. This week is Spring Break, which I had originally planned to craft the whole time. I'll be spending this week reorganizing my new classroom and getting lesson plans ready before state assessments.
I'm really happy about this change, but overwhelmed by it all. I know my life is about to be busier, but I'm going to try to keep my blogging and crafting up. Crafting is one of my stress relievers, so I have a feeling I will be crafting a lot :)
I have lots of half-finished projects and hope to be sharing them with you soon. I probably won't get much posted until April rolls around. Please stick around and I'll get back to blogging more regularly.
Thanks for reading! I really do appreciate all my followers along with your inspiring and kind comments.

Scrappy Saturday #9

Here's another layout from my brother's wedding.
I was the MOH, my sister was a bridesmaid, and my best friend from college was also a bridesmaid.
So, needless to say, it was a fun time!

(Again, ignore the wrinkly paper, I was new at scrapbooking when I created this layout.
I love the design of the page, just not necessarily the quality.)

Decorative Balls

Remember my apothecary jar I made?

Well, I had big plans on just the use for it.

I found these yarn ornaments at Wal-Mart after Christmas.  They were 75% off, which brought them to costing 25 cents each.  Now, I'm not sure I would put these on my tree.  I actually thought they were cat toys at first.

My room is purple and brown, so I used some purple spray paint to paint two of them purple.  Ok, so actually my dad painted them.  I was in the garage using his paint booth, and apparently was not doing it right.  So, he did it for me.  I think I will make sure to "do it wrong" from now on, so he'll do it for me. :)

The are kind of hard to see from the glare of the glass, but there are 2 purple ones and one brown.

I paid a dollar for the vase, a dollar for the candle stick, and 75 cents on the balls.  Not to shabby.

Apothecary Jar

These are ALL over the blogging world, so I thought I would join in.

I created my own apothecary jar using a candle stick and cylinder vase, both found at Dollar Tree.

Using glass bond, I bonded the candle stick holder to the bottom of the vase.

I'm using this to decorate my bedroom.
Check back tomorrow, to see the final product :)

Scrappy Saturday #8

It's Saturday..which means scrappy time!

This weekend I'm posting my best friends 21st birthday.  Her boyfriend rented a limo and we went from bar to bar.  It was tons of fun and totally made up for my lame 21st.
(I ran a half marathon on my 21st birthday, so there was no alchol involved,
just sore legs and lots of water!)

Tasty Tuesday #5: Crockpot Ham Steak

I love me some ham steak and this is the bestest way to cook it.
I promise, try it, and you will love it!
Plus, it really doesn't get easier than this!

Crock Pot Ham Steak

Ingredients:
1-2 pounds ham steak
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup tarragon vinegar
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
3 cans green beans

Directions:
Combine garlic powder, salt, pepper, brown sugar, vinegar, water and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.  Use this mixture to marinade the ham by rubbing it on both sides of the ham steak.  Place the ham in a crock pot and dump any remaining mixture over the top.  Drain the green beans and add them to the crock pot.  Cook on low for 10 hours.

I put mine in the crock pot in the morning and when I get home from work its finished.  The ham gets SO tender it just crumbles.

It doesn't look beautiful, but man oh man it is tasty!

Bathroom Drawer Organization

I've been trying to get things organized lately. I have been so busy with a million different things, that my organization has slipped and my messiness has shown through.

Here's my bathroom drawer, which is a complete disaster.

The first thing I did was take everything out.

I also had an empty drawer that wasn't being used.
I wiped it out and decided to use it too.

In one drawer, I put 3 little white baskets...

...and 2 little white baskets in the other drawer.

I had a lot of stuff that didn't need to be in the drawer. They all found a different home somewhere else.

In one drawer I put my face wash, Blistex, hair things, and Scentsy wax for the warmer in the bathroom.

In the other drawer, I put my toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, and retainer.

This only took about 10 minutes and makes a huge difference. Getting ready in the morning now requires much less digging.

Tasty Tuesday #4: Cute Cupcakes

Ok, so normally I would share a recipe on Tasty Tuesday, but I am really rundown and tired this week. I started a new workout program and it is kicking my butt. People always say that working out gives them so much energy, well that's not the case with me! I am drained.

Since I haven't cooked anything new lately, I decided to steal some pictures from my sister-in-law. They are a few of her cupcakes and not only do they look great, but they are tasty too.

.........................................

My sister-in-law, Kaari, has found a recent hobby of baking and decorating cupcakes.
She wants to get into party/event planning, but is starting small. Right now, she is focusing on her cupcake skills, and she has skills! I am not nearly patient enough to do this kind of stuff, but all of hers turn out amazing. She has even started filling orders for children's birthday parties. I'm so happy for her!

I stole these pics off of facebook, so I hope she doesn't mind.
I just wanted to share some of them with all of you. :)

Mickey Mouse Cupcakes

These were "Scooby Snacks" for a kid's birthday party.

Cute little puppies.

Another puppy.

These monkeys were for my niece's 2nd birthday.

I believe all of the next cupcakes were for the same party... basketballs...

...tennis balls...

...footballs...

...and baseballs.

Isn't she good?
I could never decorate like this, especially without gaining 15 pounds from eating all the frosting :)
